Preliminary hearing date set for charged club officers

A preliminary hearing on Monday set a March 10 trial date for the four eating club officers charged with serving alcohol to minors after an undercover investigation by Borough Police.

The officers were issued summonses Feb. 4 at the conclusion of the investigation, which involved sending undercover officers posing as students into clubs to watch for underage drinking.

The charges against former Colonial president Chris Langhammer '03 include four counts of making alcohol available to minors and two counts of maintaining a nuisance, said court administrator Susan Shapiro. Former Quadrangle Club president Rolando Amaya '03 was also charged with maintaining a nuisance, as well as two counts of making alcohol available to minors, she said.

Additionally, Colonial officer Anna-Rachel Dray-Siegel '04 and former officer Justin Mirabal '03 face charges of serving alcohol to minors, Shapiro said.

New Jersey does not divide its crimes into misdemeanors and felonies, but the charges against all of the officers are considered "non-indictable," or equivalent to a misdemeanor, Shapiro said.

Colonial Graduate Board President Llewellyn Ross '58 declined to comment on the charges while the case was ongoing.

However, Ross said the board has arranged for the legal counsel of those charged. "We do whatever we can to support our students," he said.

Colonial's graduate board has been in contact with its current officers, who work diligently to prevent minors from being served alcohol, Ross said.
