Phone-a-Thong Campaign

Sexy. Powerful. Strong.

These are usually words associated with masculinity, especially the masculine appearance. But we wanna ask you, boys — Can you wear this?

The Phone-a-Thong campaign, rather than being based on shock value or an attempt to say that women can merely be sexy, is a statement against the objectification of women. We are reclaiming the thong, declaring that women can be sexy without being sex objects. We are imploring women to feel empowered, to own their feminism and own their bodies.

We think the thong is an essential part of a woman's wardrobe that is taken for granted by men. Good looks come with a little discomfort. Those who only know boxers versus briefs wouldn't understand.

We also would like to eliminate the double standard that exists in underwear. It's totally fine for women to inquire in jest to their friends about whether a passing male is wearing boxers or briefs. There are even Michael Jordan ads playing off of this concept. However, you would never see a Victoria's Secret ad featuring two men wondering: "Thong, or bikini?"

We think the thong is an underwear item just like any other, and we want to step away from this double standard and general discomfort with women's underwear.

Every donation to the Phone-a-Thong will go towards our fundraising efforts for speakers and events on campus in the upcoming months.

The amount of the donation will be classified into one of three categories. A donation of $5 will earn a cotton thong in the color of your choice. Lace thongs will be provided for a donation of $15. Those donating $25 or above will receive a collector's item silk thong with matching bra.
