Teen rocker Avril Lavigne's new song will have nothing to do with a skater boy.
Lavigne, who was recently accepted into the Class of 2007 at the University, penned her most recent tune for new beau Tim Skerpon '03.
Recently nominated for five Grammy awards for her debut album, Lavigne said Skerpon is not only the inspiration behind several songs that will appear on her sophomore album but also the reason she decided to apply to the University.
"I just want to follow in his footsteps," Lavigne said in an interview yesterday. "The application was a little complicated, but it was totally worth the effort."
Skerpon, who is USG social chair, did not return phone calls and emails for this article.
Titled "Rocker Boy," Lavigne's song will focus on Skerpon's work with his campus band fabLed. "Rocker Boy" claims that Skerpon's talent is greatly underappreciated and that fabLed will be the next Counting Crows.
"I heard a demo tape of them performing, and I knew he was the one for me," the Canadian singer explained. "It was like he was singing to my soul."
Asked about the current status of her relationship with the boy for whom she wrote "Skater Boy," Lavigne explained that he is "just a boy I used to know."
Because of Skerpon, Lavigne said she will be very active in the USG during her time at the University, and she is seriously considering bickering Tower.
Skerpon's friends said that while they were impressed, Lavigne's act of devotion comes as no surprise.
"Tim was always good with women," said sophomore year roommate James Cadogan '03. "When I lived with him, he was quite the player."
"With the way he gets around, it just seemed like he was kind of destined to hook up with somebody famous eventually," added Brad Simmons '03, who also roomed with Skerpon.

Despite Skerpon's reputation as a "player," Lavigne is not expecting to say "see you later, boy" any time soon.
"It's totally unlike anything before," she said of the relationship. "We've got a good rhythm together, you know? We are in love. We really rock each other's world."
Most of the other songs inspired by Skerpon are not yet titled, Lavigne said, but said they will discuss, among other things, the night she met Skerpon at the 'Street' and even a traditional love song.
"I'm just so lucky to have him in my life," she said. "He makes me feel like Madonna."
