Engaging Princeton

Almost three years ago, Richard Just '01, soon to be the 124th 'Prince' editor-in-chief, had a vision for expanding the paper's intellectual scope beyond the occasional in-depth look at campus dynamics. He met with 'Prince' staffer Michael Koike '01 to decide how to do this.

The two talked over dinner and five hours later, Page Three was born, with Koike as its first executive editor. Page Three, conceived as the intellectual flagship of the 'Prince', would devote its energies to in-depth investigative stories and act as a forum for members of the University community with stories to tell.

Now three years later, Page Three continues to take in-depth looks at the dynamics of life on campus. This year, we, the editors of Page Three, are emphasizing a more interactive element to our intellectual coverage.

A new column, 'Roundtable Ethics', will feature University professors answering ethical questions solicited from the community. To reflect the diverse range of personal and academic viewpoints on campus, a different professor will answer the questions each Thursday.

Another new feature, to appear daily, is the 'Overheard' section. 'Overheard' will attempt to reflect the diversity of conversations across campus, both humorous and intellectual in nature.

We are also bringing back 'A Glimpse Within', which allows members of the University community to share their personal experiences and perspectives. We extend an open invitation to readers to submit columns for consideration for publication.

To better reflect the community, we want to hear from you, whether it is in the form of a personal story, an ethical question for the roundtable of professors or an interesting discussion that you've had. We also particularly appreciate hearing your thoughts on how we can improve Page Three. Starting Monday, we can be reached at The Page 3 Department.

We look forward to a semester of great intellectual conversations with you. — Jessica Hafkin '03 and Michael Stein '03 Excutive Editors for Page Three
