An invitation

This is the first issue of the 2003 Managing Board of The Daily Princetonian. For the last 125 years, the members of each incoming board have changed the 'Prince' with their ideas. We, the 126th Managing Board, bring our own goals to 48 University Place and hope to build on the rich tradition of one of the oldest daily student newspapers in the country.

Our mission this year is to strengthen the newspaper and create a better and more engaging product.

The coverage of campus news is the first aspect of the 'Prince' we will develop. The University is brimming with exciting arts events, active student groups and academic lectures. Our writers and editors are already pursuing new ideas and contacts to ensure we have more complete coverage. We may not always be able to include everything, but we will make every effort to try.

We will add new features and more investigative pieces to our sports section. Our traditional coverage of Princeton sports will continue, but we will provide more analysis of events rather than simple recaps.

The issues we address on our editorial page will more closely follow discussions in eating clubs, dining halls, and around campus. It will be a place for you to respond to news, read point/counterpoint columns and for the 'Prince' staff to comment on campus issues.

But changes we make will only improve the 'Prince' with your help. We are your campus newspaper. That is how we would like you, our reader, to imagine The Daily Princetonian. When you read a piece in the newspaper you enjoy, dislike, agree or disagree with — let us know. Each day we write a newspaper full of news events, profiles, sports scores, opinion columns and photographs for you. Now we need you to write back to us. Whether it is a letter to the editor or an email, we will respond to your feedback.

The 126th Board of The Daily Princetonian will improve the newspaper — and we are inviting you to join us. — Bill Beaver, Editor-in-Chief
