The field hockey team is used to winning. The Tigers have dominated the Ivy League for several seasons and made three-straight NCAA Final Four appearances from 1996-98.
Now add 2001 to the list.
But just because it has happened often, does not mean field hockey has done it with ease.
With just over five minutes remaining in Princeton's game against top-ranked Old Dominion Sunday, the score was knotted at 1-1. Princeton had edged ODU earlier in the season, but all bets were off in the tournament. In this game, the next goal would likely be the winner. It was then that sophomore Cory Picketts cut in from the right side of the circle and slipped the ball under the ODU goalie, giving the Tigers the lead, and ultimately the game and another trip to the Final Four.
"I didn't want to take the chance on a big swing," Picketts said, "so I just pushed it through."
And with the greatest of ease, Picketts had put the Tigers back in the Final Four.
