Three players took home Ivy League honors this week, led by field hockey's Ilvy Friebe, who picked up her third Ivy League Player of the Week award of the season.
Two other Tigers to pick up Ivy League awards for the week include the women's soccer team's Esmeralda Negron and the women's volleyball team's Alex Brown, each of whom received Ivy League Rookie of the Week awards for this week.
Friebe, a junior attack, continued her strong play this season, accumulating six points on the week. Friebe had two goals and an assist in Princeton's key 5-2 win over Harvard in a match-up of the league's two remaining unbeaten teams.
She then tallied an assist in the Tigers' 2-1 win over Boston University the next day. For the season, Friebe has 53 points (22 goals, nine assists) and leads the nation in points, points per game, goals and goals per game.
For Negron, a freshman forward, it was in the 2-1 win over Harvard that she earned the award.
Negron netted the game-winner with less then four minutes remaining in the first overtime period at 101:01. This was Negron's fourth goal of the season and her third game-winning goal. The three game-winning goals lead the Tigers.
Brown, a freshman middle blocker, picked up her first award of the season as the Tigers went 2-0 against Brown and Yale.
She finished with nine kills and 17 digs in a 3-1 win over Brown. Against Yale she recorded a .409 hitting percentage as she posted 11 kills and eight digs in the 3-1 Tiger win.
The men's and women's ice hockey teams both start their seasons this weekend with exhibitions at home.
The men will play St. Francis Xavier at 5 p.m. on Saturday evening at Baker Rink and then the women will be in action against the Junior Aeros Sunday at noon, also at Baker Rink.
Both teams will start their regular season schedules the next week as the women host Mercyhurst and the men travel to Niagara.
