Men's, women's track teams compete at Florida Invitational

The men's and women's track teams finished their Spring Break trip to Florida by competing in the Florida Invitational in Miami, Fla.

Junior Catherine Casey won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4 minutes, 40.03 seconds, beating out Kim Grabarz of Connecticut by .2 seconds. Tiger freshmen Betsy Kennedy and Susan Coltman took second and third place, respectively, in the javelin throw. Sophomore Emily Smith took third in the 800 meter run in 2:18.43. She was followed by freshman Vail Bloom, who took ninth.

The men's team was led by the throwers. In the shot put, senior Scott Denbo took first with a throw of 57 feet, 11 inches. He was followed by freshman Rocky Craley in second place and sophomore Jeff Petrulis in fourth. Freshman Josh McCaughey took first in the hammer throw, while freshman Mark Smith captured third.

But the throwers were not the only ones winning. In the high jump, senior Tora Harris' jump of 2.16 meters was good for first, and freshman Steve Wiley took second.

The runners also got in on the action, as the 4x100 and 4x400 teams both took fourth.
