Capitals sign m. hockey's Corrinet

After completing the final year of an outstanding college career for the men's hockey team, senior forward Chris Corrinet will be moving on to the professional level.

George McPhee, Vice President and General Manager of the Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League, announced yesterday that his team had signed the right wing to a two-year contract.

The Capitals assigned Corrinet to the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League, a feeder league for the NHL. The Pirates currently stand in fifth place in the New England Division of the AHL with a record of 31-38-3. The team could use Corrinet's offensive help, as no Pirates are among the league's top 10 in goals or assists.

By signing the deal, Corrinet joins the program for which Jeff Halpern '99 currently plays. Though not drafted, Halpern has since become one major contributor for the Capitals.

Unlike Halpern, Corrinet was drafted by the Capitals, taken in the fourth round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. Once Corrinet finished his college career, he was bound for Washington.

While at Princeton, the six-foot, three-inch Corrinet piled up 36 goals, 38 assists and 131 penalty minutes. He had 13 goals and 12 assists this year.
