A number of Princeton athletes were honored over the last week for on and off the field accomplishments.
Junior forward Andrea Kilbourne of the women's ice hockey team was recognized for her performance throughout the year, while freshman goalie Megan Van Beusekom, also of women's ice hockey, and freshman forward Andre Logan of the men's basketball team gained weekly awards. In addition, the Ivy League recently released its Academic All-Ivy Selcetions for fall sports.
Kilbourne was named a candidate for the 2001 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, given to the most outstanding player in women's intercollegiate ice hockey. Kazmaier was a four-year All-Ivy defenseman for Princeton in the early 1980s, leading the Tigers to three Ivy championships.
Kilbourne's scoring numbers earned her a spot on the list. She leads the Tigers with 35 points (15 goals, 20 assists), good for fourth in the Eastern College Athletic Conference.
Kilbourne is among 10 candidates for the award. Candidates were selected by the nation's women's ice hockey coaches. Three finalists will be chosen from the group of candidates on March 12.
Kilbourne's teammate, Van Beusekom, received Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year.
Van Beusekom's spectacular game in Princeton's 3-1 loss to Dartmouth Sunday garnered her the honor. She notched 49 saves against the Big Green, the nation's top-ranked team. The total was the fourth-highest in Princeton history.
Of those three shots Dartmouth managed to slip into the net, one was a power-play goal, the other an empty-net score.
Logan was also named Ivy Rookie of the Week, continuing the success of men's basketball's freshman class. Princeton players have now taken the award four times this year, with forward Konrad Wysocki claiming two and guard Ed Persia one.
After missing Princeton's game against The College of New Jersey on Jan. 29, Logan piled up 22 points and 11 rebounds in games against Brown and Yale Friday and Saturday.
Though his numbers were impressive, nothing Logan did on the weekend was so crucial as his rejection of Brown guard Earl Hunt with just seconds remaining in that close contest. With that, the Tigers' perfect Ivy record was maintained.
