Nominated for a Grammy Award, "Yes, Please" — Fourplay's seventh album on the Warner Brothers label — has remained number one for three weeks on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart.

The group's current members are Bob James on piano, Nathan East on bass and vocals, Larry Carlton on guitar and Harvey Mason on drums.

Overall, this is an excellent album. I definitely would recommend it to anyone who likes smooth jazz and enjoy artists like Spyro Gyra and Ronnie Jordan. It also works well if you are looking for some good music to complement a romantic night with a significant other.

"Save Some Love for Me," track six, is the best song on this album. East is the star of the show here; his excellent bass-work helps create the song's deep, sensual mood as do wispy, breathless vocals by guest vocalist Sherree. Choose this track if you want that romantic background for an evening with your significant other.

One downside is that the bass is not emphasized more, because it makes this track so good. At different points during the song, I heard several extra complementary bass beats in my head which were not there.

James, who has contributed to more than 200 albums and several motion picture and television soundtracks, currently is playing with pianist Keiko Matsui in a "four-hands piano" tour that began in mid-January in Japan and is scheduled to arrive in the United States around mid-March. The United States release of his latest solo effort, "Dancing on the Water," is scheduled for Feb. 13.

The other members of the band also have recorded prolifically and won great acclaim. East garnered the distinction of most valuable player in the bass catagory at the International Rock Awards.

Carlton has won two Grammy Awards and contributed to writing the theme songs of the television shows Hill Street Blues and Who's The Boss?

Mason recently recorded a solo effort called "Ratamacue" and has played with Duke Ellington, Quincy Jones and Grover Washington.

The only negative part of this album is track 10, "A Little Fourplay," in which the play on words with the group's name becomes rather trite.

Despite this track, however, the album is bound to add a hint of romance for a night with that special someone.
