The Princeton University Glee Club (Concert Choir) and the Princeton University Chamber Choir will present a program entitled "Twentieth Century French Masters" at Richardson Auditorium on Sat., March 3 at 8 p.m.
The central work of the concert will be Maurice Durufle's "Requiem Opus 9." Composed in 1947, the requiem is Durufle's best known work and one of the most frequently performed requiems in the repertoire. It is modal in style, each movement based on a theme that evokes gregorian chant.
Durufle wrote three versions of accompaniment for his requiem, and the Glee Club will present the reduced orchestra version with students from the Princeton University Orchestra. Soloists for the requiem include Lauren Buckley '01, Alison Dwyer '03 and Felice Kuan '04.
Also featured in the program are "Motets Pour un Temps de Penitence" by Francis Poulenc, and "Cantique de Jean Racine" by Gabriel Faure.
A little known work of Eric Satie, "Sports et Divertissements," will be played by Emily Liao '01 with Matthew Lembo '02 as speaker.
Tickets for the event are available at the Richardson Auditorium Box Office (609) 258-5000 and are $6 for students. — Richard Tang Yuk
