News & Notes: Former Hun School teacher avoids prison in plea deal

Nolan Johnson, a former technical theater teacher at the Hun School of Princeton, admitted as part of a plea deal that he had sex with a female student last year, the Princeton Packet reportedon Thursday.

Johnson pleaded guilty to second-degree endangering the welfare of a child at Mercer County Superior Court in Trenton.

As part of the agreement, Johnson will receive a five-year suspended prison sentence, register as a sex offender and be on parole for the rest of his life. Johnson had originally been charged with three counts of second-degree sexual assault in addition to the endangerment charge.

Prosecutors determined that Johnson and the student's relationship was not ongoing for a long period of time, the Packet said.

After school officials learned of the allegations, Johnson was placed on leave. Johnson thereafter allegedly confessed the crime to police and was immediately terminated, according to the Times of Trenton in September.

Johnson started working at the Hun School in 2012 and prior to that worked at Newtown Friends School and Six Flags Great Adventure and was also a children's entertainer as the Cat in the Hat, the Packet said.
