At the Marriott, Genova got the attention of a police officer and saw a stolen laptop that wasn’t his in Djamal’s duffel bag. According to police, Djamal was initially apologetic but denied the burglary and eventually fled on foot.

The officer apprehended Djamal and took him into custody.

The police revealed that Djamal has been convicted of burglary and is a fugitive from Pennsylvania. He confessed to have stolen a laptop and cash from another unit in Genova’s building a few days earlier and was charged with second-degree burglary, criminal attempt to commit fourth-degree larceny, sixth-degree larceny and threatening and assault on an officer.

Both the Yale Police Department and New Haven police are investigating Djamal’s possible relations to other crimes in the area.
