Women's Soccer: 36-second stretch drops Tigers in Ivy opener

A 36-second stretch of game time was all it took to decide the winner of the women’s soccer team’s match against Yale. The Bulldogs scored twice in the 57th minute and played shutdown defense the rest of the way as Princeton fell 2-0 in its Ivy League opener.

Football: Defense not to blame

There is plenty of fault to be had in the football team’s 10th consecutive defeat, the culmination of a full season’s worth of losses. But the defense should rank low on that list, after it was placed in an unwinnable position by a series of failures from the other units on Saturday night. In fact, the Tigers would have allowed more than the nine points they scored even if the defense had never conceded a single yard.

Fans packed the bleachers at Dillon Gymnasium on Friday night to watch as the women’s volleyball team defeated Ivy League rival and defending champion Penn in the opening conference match of the season. Last year when the Tigers took on the Quakers, each team won one very close match, so anticipation was high leading up to the weekend’s contest.

The women’s soccer team had familiar troubles when it faced Lafayette at home on Wednesday. The Tigers, who have struggled to find the net early this season, attacked with a passion throughout the match, taking a season-high 29 shots. Although the Leopards took only three shots during the contest, two found the net, dealing the Tigers a disappointing 2-2 tie.

The women’s volleyball team lost its 2011 home opener to Seton Hall in three highly contested games, 27-25, 26-24, 25-23. In their last match before the commencement of the Ivy League season, the Tigers found themselves in large deficits before rallying to tie the score late in each game but finished on the wrong end of three close sets.

Whenever I leave my house, I pass my high school, right across the street from where I live. As I left home for work one morning this July, I noticed the parking lot full of vehicles and golf carts roaming between the rows of cars. Women's Soccer: Scoreless weekend ends in pair of defeats

On Friday, the Tigers traveled to William & Mary to face the Tribe (5-1-2) but fell in a 2-0 shutout, Princeton’s first defeat of the season. The Tigers then returned to Roberts Stadium on Sunday to host their home opener against the Explorers, where they were handed a 1-0 shutout. With the two weekend losses, the Tigers’ record sunk to 1-5 this season.
