Mitch Henderson ’98 was formally introduced as the next men’s basketball head coach in a press conference on Thursday, one day after it was announced that he would succeed Sydney Johnson ’97. Henderson sat next to Director of Athletics Gary Walters ’67 in the Princeton Stadium press box while dozens of members and friends of the athletics department watched the ceremony.

There is a group of competitors on the Princeton campus that is rather mysterious and never accepts interview requests. Psychoanalysts have suggested that this is a direct result of their secluded training exercises. While traditional sports teams practice on freshly cut grass or glossy gym floors, these athletes often prefer to practice and compete in the comfort of their own dorms, where there are minimal distractions from the task at hand. This weekend, the men’s lacrosse team will look to extend its two-game win streak when it hosts Harvard on Saturday. The game against the Crimson (7-5 overall, 1-3 Ivy League) is the last home game of the season and must be won by the Tigers (4-6, 2-2) if they hope to play into the postseason.

Women's Lacrosse: Tigers snap Penn’s 34-game Ivy win streak

The women’s lacrosse team sought vengeance when it traveled to Penn’s Franklin Field last night. Remembering a tough loss 13-9 to the No. 9 Quakers (9-4 overall, 5-1 Ivy League) in the conference tournament last season as well as a devastating 9-8 defeat in the game against Harvard last weekend, No. 19 Princeton (7-5, 4-1) was determined to win. The Tigers did just that, never trailing in an 11-7 road victory.

CBS and Time Warner bought joint ownership of the NCAA Tournament television rights for $10.8 billion, and athletic departments around the nation dedicate hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars to support their programs. Sophomore outfielder John Mishu of the baseball team has attracted attention on and off the field in his two years at Princeton. He led the Tigers with a .304 batting average in his rookie year while mostly playing first base and has continued to produce this season since moving to the outfield, batting .278 and ranking second on the team with a .378 on-base percentage.

Softball: Penn sweeps Princeton in 4-game series

After splitting games with Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend on the road, the softball team looked for a strong showing at Penn this weekend. Unfortunately for the Tigers (13-21 overall, 4-8 Ivy League), the Quakers were impregnable at home and swept a pair of doubleheaders. Princeton now stands three games back in the Ivy League South Division after Penn (14-6-1, 6-6) took all four games, winning 4-2 and 2-1 on Friday and 7-2 and 9-2 on Sunday.

Men's Volleyball: Tuminelli shines, but hosts lose finale

With one last game left in his Princeton volleyball career, senior outside hitter Vincent Tuminelli put on a show for the crowd, but Sacred Heart (13-9) still carried the day. Princeton (3-19) put forth a valiant effort on Saturday but fell to the Pioneers in a 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22 loss in the team’s last match of the season.

A sweep of Sunday’s doubleheader against Penn gave the men’s baseball team sole possession of first place in the Lou Gehrig division of the Ivy League. Despite splitting the first doubleheader to remain tied atop the standings with the Quakers (16-15 overall, 7-5 Ivy League), the Tigers (15-16, 9-3) came from behind to pull off close victories in both of Sunday’s games at Penn’s Meiklejohn Stadium.

Women's Lacrosse: Harvard hands team 1st Ivy League loss, 9-8

With just under three and a half minutes remaining, sophomore midfielder Charlotte Davis found the net, bringing the No. 12 women’s lacrosse team within one goal of Harvard for the first time since the opening minutes. Harvard gained control of the final draw and began playing keep-away in their offensive end, hoping to hold onto the 9-8 lead as the final minutes ticked away.
