Track & Field: Stilin keeps pace in ‘stacked’ 5k field, sets Princeton record

Toeing the line of the elite invitational 5000-meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays in California, senior Joe Stilin found himself a long way from the Ivy League. Racing against one of the most competitive fields he had ever seen, Stilin had two choices before him: run the race of his life, or get dropped like a sack of bricks.“I don’t even really remember the last three or four laps, I was just in oxygen debt pretty bad,” Stilin said. “I looked at the clock with 600 to go and saw what I needed to run to get the school record, and I just focused from there."

Featuring several star performances, the No. 13 men’s lacrosse team seized an early lead over Harvard and refused to give up its dominance on Saturday. With a 12-5 victory, Princeton (9-3 overall, 5-0 Ivy League) remained undefeated in conference play and, thanks to a surprising result at Cornell, earned a share of the Ivy League regular-season title.

Men's Volleyball: Siroky leads comeback to secure playoff spot

On March 3, the men’s volleyball team began to watch its postseason chances slowly crumble after losing to Harvard in a five-set thriller. Princeton would embark on a five-game losing streak in the EIVA, dropping in league standings with each loss. The Tigers needed to break back into the top four to reclaim a spot in the postseason, which meant winning their last two conference matches. They could only qualify for the playoffs by being nothing less than perfect.

Tennis: Men's coach Michibata resigns after 12-year tenure

After the conclusion of his 12th season as head coach of the men’s tennis team, Glenn Michibata resigned Monday from his position. Princeton lost its last two games of the season this past weekend, ending its Ivy title hopes and signaling the conclusion of Michibata’s Princeton career with a 145-121 record.

The women’s lacrosse team pulled off a crucial 12-9 upset of Ivy League rival Dartmouth at 1952 Stadium on Saturday afternoon. By beating the No. 8 Big Green, which was previously undefeated in conference play, No. 20 Princeton (7-6 overall, 4-2 Ivy League) kept its playoff hopes alive and remained in a three-way tie for third place in the conference.

Baseball: After losing 3 of 4, Tigers need sweep to return to ILCS

After a disappointing series at Columbia, the baseball team will need to pull out all the stops next week against Cornell to keep its hopes for a repeat Ivy League Championship alive. The Tigers’ reliable defense came up short this weekend in three of four outings against the Lions, while Cornell won its series at Penn, leaving Princeton (17-22 overall, 9-7 Ivy League) three games behind the Big Red with four head-to-head meetings remaining.

The Atlanta native and self-proclaimed “fashion police” said that his role is the most important on the team, contributing to its successes this season. With an important weekend against Columbia (14-21, 6-6) coming up, the team will need York’s skill, humor and fashion sense to succeed.

Nine years ago, 12-year-old Liza Kuhn decided to pick up softball after years of playing Wiffle ball with her family in the backyard of her home in Middletown, N.J. In order to pursue softball, she gave up gymnastics, which she had been doing for several years.“It only took a few weeks to realize that I loved the game for its competitiveness and sense of team,” Kuhn said. Kuhn threw two-and-a-third innings in the second game of Princeton's doubleheader on Wednesday, allowing one run, but Princeton dropped both contests at Lehigh, 3-1 and 2-0.
