Men's Soccer: Princeton falls in tough OT loss

With the game on the line in the fifth minute of sudden-death overtime, Creighton defender Benito Amaral received a smooth through-ball eight yards out from goal from midfielder Jose Gomez on the right side. Despite Princeton junior goalkeeper Seth MacMillan’s sliding attempt, Amaral’s composed near-post strike found the net, vaulting the Bluejays to a 3-2 victory over the men’s soccer team on Tuesday night at Roberts Stadium.

Football: Sophomore duo rotates under center

What do the 2006 Florida Gators have to do with the 2012 Princeton Tigers? Princeton also has two quarterbacks sharing snaps — sophomores Connor Michelsen and Quinn Epperly — and while the Tigers may not have a season like Florida’s six years ago, their two quarterbacks may bring a type of success not seen by the Orange and Black in some time.

Tigers showcase teams, facilities on ESPNU

Tonight, Princeton’s game against No. 24 Creighton will be broadcast live on the network. When the Department of Athletics’ relationship with ESPN began in 2005, the network mainly carried football, men’s basketball and men’s lacrosse games. But in recent years, the men’s soccer and men’s water polo teams have had their games broadcast nationally as well. While the Department of Athletics would like to see ESPN carry a more diverse array of sports, it has benefited in terms of recruiting and connecting with its fan base nationwide.

Field Hockey: Hosts secure 10th victory with shutout

When sophomore striker Allison Evans found herself alone with the ball behind the opposing defense five minutes into the second half, the field hockey team was in a scoreless tie with American University. After Eagles goalkeeper Ashley Dalisera saved a shot from freshman midfielder Teresa Benvenuti, Evans tapped in the easy chance to break the tie and give Princeton a lead it would keep for the rest of the game.

Men's Soccer: Porter scores off long throw to draw with No. 19 Brown

In the men's soccer team's double-overtime match against No. 19 Brown on Saturday night, the Tigers (5-3-1 overall, 1-0-1 Ivy League) allowed just one goal — a rocket shot off of a redirected corner kick in the 38th minute — but exploited the massive Brown defenders on a chance of their own, pulling out a 1-1 draw against the Bears (8-1-2, 1-0-1).

Women's Soccer: Late goals keep hosts unbeaten in Ivy play

With less than 15 minutes to play in the second half and still no score, the women’s soccer team was in need of some late heroics against Brown to remain undefeated in the Ivy League. The Bears (6-4-0 overall, 0-3 Ivy League) had done well at keeping the Ivy League’s top scorer, senior forward Jen Hoy, at bay, so the Tigers (7-3-1, 3-0) needed someone else to provide a spark to their offense. Surprisingly, that playmaker was a defender: senior Alison Nabatoff.

Sprint Football: New players lead team into meeting with Post

The sprint football team has not won in a very long time. To be specific, the sprint football team has not won an official game in 12 years and has lost 83 straight games. However, despite starting the season 0-3, Princeton has been more successful this season than in recent memory. Princeton lost to both Mansfield and Cornell by only a touchdown; and now, the Tigers may very well be ready to take the next step as they face Post this weekend.

Sophomore francie jenkins is a right side hitter for the women’s volleyball team, which hosts Cornell tonight and Columbia on Saturday. Francie contributed to Princeton’s second place finish in the Ivy League last year and helped lead her high school team to the state finals her senior year. Hailing from North Carolina, Francie has all the attitude of a competitive athlete and all the style of a Southern belle. Francie recently sat down with the ‘Prince’ to discuss YOLO, dance moves, crack whores and being fearless.

Sprint Football: Princeton loses overtime thriller

After the sprint football team scored a field goal on its overtime drive against Post University on Friday evening, it was all up to its defense. If the Tigers could hold Post scoreless, Princeton would have its first victory since 1999. But the Eagles scored a five-yard touchdown for a 32-29 victory at Princeton Stadium.

Walking around campus, you might never recognize senior forward Jen Hoy, though she has scored nearly twice as many goals as anyone else in the Ivy League this season. Despite her on-field successes, she maintains a low profile, out of the spotlight. On the field, however, the Sellersville, Pa., native does not take on an unassuming role, as Hoy’s combination of speed and poise has carried the Tigers to a 2-0 record in the Ivy League this season.

Men's Soccer: Hoppenot brings skill, new poise to pros

During his time with the men’s soccer team, Antoine Hoppenot ’12 was an exemplary dribbler. Hoppenot is still fast, he’s still a great dribbler, and he still has the ability to fire up the crowd and wear down opposing defenders with a late-game breakaway. But now that he’s a professional forward for the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer, he’s learned to adjust his role on the field as well as his behavior in times of frustration.
