Fencing: Tigers have 1st dual competitions
The men’s and women’s fencing teams had their first head-to-head competitions at the Vassar Duals on Saturday. The women’s team went a perfect 5-0, winning each match by more than 10 bouts, while the men went 4-1.
The women’s team, which has won three straight Ivy League championships, swept all five of its opponents, including a 19-8 victory over historically strong Penn State. Sophomore foilist Ambika Singh lost only one of her 15 bouts on Saturday.
The men’s team won four matches by comfortable margins but lost to the Nittany Lions, 15-12. Senior epeeist Jonathan Yergler, the defending individual NCAA champion, won nine of his 10 bouts.
Wrestling: Princeton falls at Rider
The wrestling team lost its fourth straight dual match on Saturday, falling to Rider 32-11 despite victories from two freshmen. 125-pounder Max Rogers and 184-pounder Scott Gibbons combined for 11 points with a technical fall and a pin, respectively, but Rider won the other eight contests.
Several Tigers competed in the Bob Quade Open at Centenary College on Sunday. Freshman Kevin Moylan finished first in his weight class, while junior Seth Hazleton and sophomore Grayson Shepperd placed second and third in their respective events.
