Why the clubs clobber the colleges

For some reason — don’t ask me how, don’t ask me why — people seem to be into joining groups that not everyone can be in. Maybe it has to do with feeling better about themselves or something — I don’t know. What’s important is that it works, and this is something that the residential colleges must take into account.

Time to grow up

The gap year can serve as a period to collect one’s thoughts, assess one’s goals and find one’s hidden passions. The opportunity leaves as quickly as it comes.

Just because the phrase “no pain, no gain” rings true sometimes, that does not mean that we can only gain through pain. This, however, is essentially what conservatives have argued: Only if we suffer now can we have economic growth later.

The country is more likely to listen to a friend than an enemy, to constructive rather than destructive criticism. Let us hope that with this in mind, all sides can come together with constructive solutions to bring peace to the volatile region of the Middle East.

Editorial: Let students drop courses for free

The $45 fine essentially functions as a nuisance fee, and its elimination is unlikely to create significant problems. Ending the policy of nickel-and-diming students through this fee would allow students more time to make informed decisions on their coursework without facing unnecessary pressure from the University.

Hummus matters

We believe that only through international pressure will Israelis be able to make the difficult decisions that will ensure Israel’s long-term existence. It is through this kind of effort that South Africans were able to end apartheid, and there is little reason to believe that it would not work just as well in this case.

Brought to tears by a commencement address

No one who has sat in my common room could tell me that Princeton students don’t care about the quest for knowledge, not victory, in debate. No one could tell me that grades or cynicism should or can define the Princeton experience. Almost every person I’ve interacted with one-on-one at this school is driven in some way by a love of learning something they are passionate about.
