Dubbing the audience “Sarah Palin’s worst nightmare,” he joked that Princeton students were too comfortable eating their arugula and brie to worry about pressing national issues like job security and the economy.

In police force, dearth of alumni

Princeton in the nation’s Service” may be the University’s unofficial motto, but the widespread enthusiasm for service among Princetonians does not extend to state law enforcement. Alumni participation in this profession has been sparse, with only a handful of active police officers listed on TigerNet, Princeton’s alumni database.

Students fined $640 for painting rooms

When Sierra Schelegle ’11 checked her student bill this fall, she was surprised to find a $640 charge for “painted walls.” She was confused, since no such charge had been included in her fire inspection notice.Schelegle is one of several undergraduates who expressed confusion about the University's rules against students painting their dorm rooms, though administrators insist there has been no change in policy.

Spreading goodwill, spoke by spoke

Last year, Lorne Applebaum GS saw a flyer on campus for a bike co-op that led him to a tiny room in the basement of Forbes College. One year later, Applebaum is a volunteer with the co-op, since renamed Cyclab, which has become a spot for students and community members to share their knowledge of and enthusiasm for the bicycle.

Amazon CEO Bezos '86 to speak at Baccalaureate

Jeff Bezos ’86, founder and CEO of the online retail giant Amazon.com, will deliver the Baccalaureate address on May 30, Class of 2010 president Aditya Panda announced Tuesday in an e-mail to all seniors. Bezos, a former Quadrangle Club member, graduated summa cum laude from the University as a concentrator in computer science and electrical engineering. After college, he worked in finance for several years before founding Amazon.com in 1994.
