2024 Fall Street Week concluded with 203 students in the Classes of 2025 and 2026 being offered spots in eating clubs. 46 students were offered spots in four of the six Bicker Clubs — neither Tiger Inn nor Cottage Club held Street Week events. Fall Street Week took place between Sept. 3 and Sept. 10, as undergraduates flocked to the eating clubs on Prospect Avenue for multiple nights of one-on-ones, group conversations, and games.

On May 1, protesters gathered before the Fountain of Freedom outside Robertson Hall for Princeton’s annual May Day March. The march, held annually on May 1 to recognize International Workers’ Day, celebrates the contributions of the working class to society and continued efforts to secure labor rights.

President of Tower Club Vincent Jiang ’25 was elected as Interclub Council (ICC) President on Monday, March 18, according to a press release from the ICC. Jiang is the first ICC President to also be the President of Tower Club since Martin Scheeler ’11, who was elected to both positions in 2010. The ICC elections follow new officer regimes taking over the 11 eating clubs that line Prospect Avenue.

Six of Princeton’s 11 eating clubs, including all Bicker clubs, recently held their undergraduate officer elections. Four of the five sign-in clubs — Cloister Inn, Charter Club, Terrace Club, and Quadrangle Club — held their elections in November of last year. One of these incoming eleven presidents will soon be elected president of the Interclub Council (ICC).

Street Week 2024 concludes with 629 students being offered spots in Bicker clubs. With the Class of 2026, Princeton’s largest undergraduate class in history taking to the street, also came historic numbers. According to a press release sent to The Daily Princetonian from the Interclub Council (ICC), a total of 1,193 students — about 80 percent of the sophomore class — took part in Street Week. This is the largest number of sophomore participants that the ICC has seen in the past decade.

President Christopher Eisgruber ’83 released his eighth annual State of the University letter on Jan. 18. In the letter, he addresses recent public discourse surrounding the conflict in Israel and Palestine, distinguishing the University from peer institutions. He also emphasizes freedom of speech, commitment to diversity, and pursuit of academic excellence.

The Whig Caucus, the left-leaning side of the the Whig-Clio debate society, initially advertised a “Presidential Town Hall with Cornel West.” It was one of an impressive line-up of speakers by the Whig-Clio society this semester including Gen. Mark Milley ’80 and Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng. These high-profile speaker events are part of an effort to bring in more speakers that “challenge the current dialogue and status quo,” according to Whig Deputy Chair Emily Hove ’26.

The Princeton Latin American Student Association (PLASA) recently went through a restructuring process that saw their board of 10 people transformed into a central team composed of 42 people. The change marks a period of transition for a community that makes up about 10 percent of Princeton’s student body.

Following the University’s first annual Community Care Day, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) met on Oct. 29 to discuss the turnout to the event. USG also discussed the development of the Mental Health Standing Committee, voted on funding events for the South Asian Students Association (SASA) and HackPrinceton and revised election procedures ahead of the upcoming winter and spring elections.

The Class of 2026 woke up bright and early at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 20 to enroll in courses for the fall 2023 semester on TigerHub, Princeton’s course enrollment platform. First-years quickly encountered issues, however, when the website crashed for many students and some alleged that they couldn’t enroll until at least 15 minutes after enrollment opened.

Soaring temperatures statewide coincided with Passover celebrations last week, leaving staff in the Center for Jewish Life (CJL) feeling the heat. In the Jewish tradition, it is customary to avoid leavened foods during Passover. The CJL, as the University’s sole kosher dining hall, offers options that adhere to these religious guidelines. The religious holiday resulted in increased workload for staff at the Center. Workers thus have had to endure temperatures in the high 80s, according to Justin Stetka, Senior Operations Manager of the CJL.

With several members referencing rampant disruptions caused by campus construction, USG members brainstormed how to encourage students to congregate outside. USG President Stephen Daniels ’24 suggested that USG could finance a tent for students to use. Other suggestions included more chairs, the introduction of hammocks, greater utilization of Poe Field, and more outside tables near dining halls including at RoMa and Whitman.

Rep. Terri Sewell ’86 (D-Ala.) addressed University community members at an event co-hosted by Whig-Clio and Princeton College Democrats on March 25. During the talk, Sewell discussed how in spite of her “overwhelming” adjustment to Princeton, she was able to persevere. She explained how the values she formed in Alabama and at Princeton allowed her to achieve great success, as she is now the congresswoman representing Alabama’s Black Belt — a region of Alabama known for its dark, rich soils, which contains roughly between 12 and 21 counties and is home to many cities crucial to the Civil Rights Movement.
