Dance competition: Highsteppers “Hit ‘Em With the Beats 2013

Break is a perfect time for watching movies ... was one of them perhaps “Step Up?”If so, you’ll be psyched, because Princeton is hosting its very own step team competition. Stepping is a form of dance originating in South Africa involving stomping, clapping and slapping to create a rhythmic pattern. The Highsteppers are bringing teams from Drexel University, Howard University, Lafayette College, Lincoln University, SUNY Albany and Temple University to compete for a $500 first-place prize, so it’s bound to be an exciting competition.

Concert: Princeton University Concerts presents the St. Lawrence String Quartet

Want to make music with Grammy-nominated artists? Come see the St. Lawrence String Quartet, who will be performing work by Haydn, Schafer and Dvorak. Its members have a broad range of experience, having played pieces by 18th-century composers like Haydn to contemporary ones like John Adams and Osvaldo Golijov (whose piece “Yiddishbbuk” earned the SLSQ two Grammy nominations).After the concert, the quartet is inviting all amateur string quartet players to join them on stage for a "late night jam session" — all ages and skill levels welcome!

Theatre: PUP's ‘Cabaret’

Princeton University Players presents “Cabaret,” this weekend only! Directed by Sarah Cuneo ’15, this lively musical centers on a decadent nightclub called the Kit Kat Klub headlined by the beautiful Sally Bowles at the dawn of Nazi Germany. The show is entertaining as well as thought-provoking, and you won’t want to miss it!

Dance: eXpressions presents: LINKED

Believe me, you want to get "Linked" with these dancers. eXpressions, Princeton's oldest student-run dance group, is kicking off the dance show season with leaps, twists and twirls. The production will feature a wide variety of dance styles from contemporary to hip-hop. What's more, there will be guest performances by Fuzzy Dice each night, along with the Nassoons on Thursday, Tigertoneson Friday and Umqombothion Saturday.

Opera: Princeton Opera Company's 'World War I Poetry' Concert

Opera and poetry? Princeton Opera Company collaboration with Ellipses Slam Team? An original performance honoring veterans and commemorating Veteran's Day? I think "yes" is the answer you are looking for. Princeton Opera Company has composed its own original music based on poetry from World War I. Together with Ellipses, the student groups will offer a unique depiction of history and an opportunity to commemorate those who served.
