News & Notes: Princeton ranked 13th out of world’s best universities

Each institution in the ranking is graded using a weighted average of categories including citations per faculty, faculty-student ratio, international students and faculty, and academic reputation. The rankings are based on data from Quacquarelli Symonds, a higher-education data analysis company.

The category in which Princeton received its lowest score, employer reputation, measures the reputation of the institution in the eyes of potential employers of recent graduates. Princeton also received a relatively low score in the proportion of international students attending.

Academic reputation, the largest proportion of the final score, is calculated based on surveys submitted by members of peer institutions. Results for surveys are then weighted based on the relevance of the polled institution.

Princeton was ahead of University of Michigan in 14th place and trailed California Institute of Technology in 12th.
