Aparajita Das has been appointed Class of 2012 secretary by the class government, Class of 2012 president Lindy Li confirmed on Wednesday.
Das, who has served for three years as class social chair, was selected as secretary by the current officers through an application process. No members of the class chose to run for the position in last week’s elections.
The Class of 2012 officers solicited applications for the position from all class members and received 11 applications, Li said in an email.
“It was a unanimous decision,” Li explained. “It is clear that given her experience and obvious interest in class government, [Das] was the strongest candidate in the pool.”
Das was disqualified from running for re-election as Class of 2012 social chair due to an apparent misunderstanding about a change to USG election rules. Das appealed her disqualification to the USG Senate, citing a miscommunication, but her appeal was denied.
Tulio Alvarez Burgos ’12, who ran unopposed in the race, was elected as Class of 2012 social chair.
In an email sent out to all applicants, Li explained the officers’ decision to appoint Das and encouraged the class to apply to be part of the Senior Commencement Committee.
“Her appointment means that the class government has finally put all the unnecessary elections drama behind us,” Li said in an email to The Daily Princetonian, referencing Das’ exclusion from the race for social chair. “We’ll move forward by channeling all of our time and energy into taking care of our class.”
