St. Lawrence (7-13-5, 3-9-1 ECAC Hockey) lost four of its last six games prior to Friday, and quickly found itself losing to the Tigers after senior co-captain Taylor Fedun scored twice in the first period.
The Saints snuck the puck past sophomore goalie Mike Condon during a power play at five minutes, 32 seconds in the second period, but freshman forward Andrew Ammon and senior forward Mike Kramer scored to widen the Princeton lead to 4-1. St. Lawrence mounted a comeback, scoring in the last minute of the second period and adding a goal in the first minute of the third to bring the game to 4-3.
Both teams started the third with power play opportunities but neither gained an edge until freshman forward Andrew Calof scored off of a pass from Kramer. The Tigers stood their ground defensively during two St. Lawrence power plays to finish the game with a win.
The Tigers sought revenge against Clarkson on Saturday after losing 5-3 earlier in the season.
“Last time we made some mental mistakes [and] we had some bad penalties” said senior forward and co-captain Kevin Lohry. “This time around, we focused on staying out of the box.”
Clarkson drew first blood with a goal 10:13 into the first period. But Princeton answered 44 seconds later when senior defenseman Matt Godlewski took a pass from Ammon to earn his first goal of the season. During a power play eight minutes later Ammon scored a goal of his own, assisted by junior forward Brodie Zuk, putting Princeton up 2-1.
Freshman goalie Sean Bonar held off the Golden Knight assault during a power play until forward Nick Tremblay found the net off his own rebound and tied the game.
Ammon netted Fedun’s pass to give the lead back to the Tigers 27 seconds into the third period but Clarkson answered four and a half minutes later to tie the game at 3.
The game ran into overtime as neither team gained an edge in the final 15 minutes of regulation. The Tigers finished off the game in the first minute when Zuk won the faceoff in overtime and passed to Lohry, who cut across the ice to find the back of the net only nine seconds into overtime.
Lohry said he was “kind of surprised at first” after scoring the goal.
“I just tried to make a play, and the defense let me by, and I was fortunate enough to slide it by,” Lohry said.
As the season winds down, the team is making sure to make the best of each league match, senior defenseman Cam Ritchie explained.

“We knew we were taking it one at a time, when every game is so important for the ECAC standings,” Ritchie said. “It’s almost like we’re in the playoffs already ... it’s important that we keep taking it one game at a time.”
The Tigers will host ECAC Hockey rivals Union and Rensselaer at Hobey Baker Rink on Friday and Saturday.
