Field Hockey: Tigers matched up against Wake Forest in first round of NCAA

Princeton enters the tournament as Ivy League champion for the second consecutive year and will reenter competitive play following a dominating 10-0 performance against Penn on Friday. In last year’s tournament, the Tigers ended their championship campaign against defending national champion Maryland in the semifinals, ultimately falling to the Terrapins 7-5. This year, Princeton enters the conference as the only team that has managed to topple No. 1 Maryland (19-1). The Terrapins currently lead the nation in five statistical categories: scoring average, goals per game, winning percentage, points per game and assists per game.

Before reaching the semifinals again, the Tigers must first hit the turf against Wake Forest, which downed Boston College 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference quarterfinals before falling to Maryland 5-4 in double overtime. After ending their season as runner up in both the 2006 and the 2008 championships, Wake Forest is itching to finally finish the tournament in first place. The matchup between Princeton and Wake Forest marks the first time the two schools have met on the field.

Should the Tigers defeat the Demon Deacons, they will play either No. 3 Virginia or Michigan State in the second round on Nov. 14 at 2 p.m.
