Women's Soccer: Women seek to avenge last year’s loss

In their head-to-head history, Princeton leads Dartmouth 15-14-1. Both teams won their first Ivy League games last week — Princeton with a 1-0 victory at Yale and Dartmouth with a 2-1 victory over Brown. Last year, the Tigers fell to Dartmouth in a 2-1 double-overtime heartbreaker.

“It is going to be a battle,” junior midfielder Sara Chehrehsa said. “Last year we scored early on in the game, and they came back to tie the game by the end of the first half. We went into overtime and unfortunately got scored on [off] a set piece, and we lost the game 2-1. This time around, we are just going to have to be extremely disciplined defensively, move the ball around quickly and really put away our chances like we have been recently.”

“There is some vengeance involved,” senior midfielder Kayleigh Iatarola added. “Going into our second [league] game, we are excited and eager to bring home a victory. Every Ivy game requires a whole different level of intensity. Dartmouth is always good competition, but I am confident we will have a good result if we play to our potential.”

The Tigers have shut out their opponents during the team’s recent two-game win streak, a result of both strong offense and defense. Princeton’s offense is led by sophomore forward Jen Hoy and sophomore midfielder Caitlin Blosser, who have scored five and four goals, respectively. During the Tigers’ game against Fairfield on Tuesday, the defense had its best performance of the year and only allowed a single shot on goal in the first half.

“During our past two wins we really found our rhythm, and everything on the field started to really click and come together,” Chehrehsa said. “We have a lot of momentum going into the game.

We all know that nothing [is] going to be given to us and we have to fight until the last minute. Like our strength coach Angie Brambley says, ‘Complacency is not an option.’ ”
