Both the men’s and women’s tennis teams look to extend their perfect Ivy League records to 5-0 this weekend. The men’s squad (7-10 overall, 3-0 Ivy League) first squares off against No. 69 Harvard (9-10, 0-2) in Cambridge, Mass., on Friday before traveling to Hanover, N.H., to face Dartmouth (9-8, 0-2) on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the women’s team (16-5, 3-0) will attempt to increase its No. 29 ranking when it hosts the other two remaining undefeated Ivy League squads: No. 53 Harvard Crimson (10-6, 2-0) on Friday and No. 48 Dartmouth Big Green (15-2, 2-0) on Saturday. The Tigers previously lost close matches to both opponents during the last two rounds of the ECAC Championships.
The last time either of Princeton's tennis teams opened up Ivy League play with three straight wins was in 2001, when the men’s squad racked up five straight wins before losing its final two Ivy League matches of the season. The women enter this weekend’s set of contests riding a six-match winning streak, with two of the wins coming against ranked opponents. So far this season, the Tigers have defeated then-No. 20 Vanderbilt and then-No. 28 Marshall in addition to six other ranked opponents over the course of the season.
On the other side of the Lenz Tennis Center, the men’s team has only emerged victorious in one of its seven matches against ranked opponents, and that win came against then-No. 69 Yale in the opening round of the ECAC Championships.
One of the biggest challenges remaining on the men’s side is Friday’s opponent, Harvard. The Crimson lost its only two Ivy League matches 5-2 against Cornell and Columbia, the two teams that Princeton will end its season against. In the ECAC Championships, Princeton lost to Harvard 6-1.
