Sophomore Coleman Crutchfield and the men’s tennis team completed their tough season with a 6-1 loss at Columbia on Saturday. The New York City native competed at No. 5 and No. 6 singles for Princeton this year. Crutchfield went 4-3 in his singles matches during Ivy League play.

Q: What was your “welcome to college” moment?

A: I threw up after the morning track workout for my entire freshman fall.

Q: What was the greatest highlight of your sports career?

A: It’s a tie between winning a national tournament in Texas during juniors or when [junior] Alex Faust and I clinched [the win] against Dartmouth this year.

Q: Who is your quirkiest teammate? 

A: [Junior] Parker Preyer. He is very sassy and has perfected the art of making fun of people.

Q: What is your funniest story about your coach, Glenn Michibata?

A: His driving habits are funny. He likes to eat and spit out sunflower seeds while simultaneously listening to heavy metal. I think it reminds him of the days when he rocked a mullet in the ’80s.

Q: What has been your most embarrassing moment at Princeton?

A: When my coach outran me on a stair workout in front of multiple sports teams.

A: Being a varsity athlete has instilled in me a strong work ethic and appreciation for the “grindhouse.”

Q: What’s the worst part about being an athlete on campus?

A: Walking from Mathey to Jadwin at 6:30 a.m. on a Friday morning when it’s sub-20 degrees outside. 

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not playing tennis?

A: I enjoy FIFA 10 and eating.

Q: What would you do if you were coach for a day?

A: I would make the team play a game of soccer.

Q: Who gets the most girls/guys on the team? Who has the most game off the court?

A: [Freshman] Michael Lin for sure gets the most girls on the team. He has a robust and hefty bone structure that is naturally striking.

Q: Do you have a particular pre-match ritual?

A: I listen to the Wu-Tang Clan and speak in tongues.

Q: Is there any music in particular that inspires you?

A: The trumpet is my favorite instrument. I particularly enjoy Christian Scott or Charlie Parker.

Q: What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?

A: I have the entire “Rent” soundtrack, which I sometimes listen to when I am alone in my room.
