While the women’s lacrosse team is still trying to find its footing in early-season competition, some things don’t change: The Tigers have maintained an authoritative position in the Ivy League.
On Wednesday night, No. 19 Princeton (3-4 overall, 2-0 Ivy League) traveled to Columbia (3-3, 0-3), hoping to defend its undefeated stance against the Lions in an all-time series of 12 games.
Superstitions aside, the Tigers did just that, bringing home their 13th win against the league opponent with a 15-5 victory.
Princeton opened the scoring one minute, 14 seconds into the game with a free position shot by sophomore midfielder Cassie Pyle.
The Lions answered back three-and-a-half minutes later by scoring on another free position shot, but the score would not stay knotted for long.
Princeton then embarked on a 10-minute, four-goal streak without allowing any goals by Columbia.
At the 22:55 mark of the first half, junior midfielder Maisie Devine notched the first of two consecutive goals for the Tigers, tipping the tally to 2-1.
A minute and a half later, it was 3-1. The goals were Devine’s third and fourth on the season.
Senior attack and tri-captain Kristin Morrison had the next goal, with Devine on the assist.
The following goal, however, would again be unassisted, marking a trend early in the game for scoring solo.
Halfway through the first period, Jenna Washabaugh had the third unassisted goal of the night (not counting free position shots), making the score 5-1.
Shortly after the fifth Princeton goal, Columbia’s Brittany Shannon would score the second and only other goal for the Lions in the first half. But 38 seconds later, Morrison fed the ball to sophomore midfielder Barb Previ, who scored.

Princeton capped off a strong first half with a goal on a free position shot by freshman midfielder Caroline Rehfuss and another unassisted goal by Washabaugh.
Rehfuss has started the season strong, putting up seven points in the first six games and making 80 percent of her shots.
The second half was much of the same story, and, in fact, the scores over the two halves were remarkably even: 8-2 in the first, 7-3 in the second.
The Tigers had a 12-to-five advantage in the draw control and 17-to-nine advantage in ground balls.
For the first 10 minutes of the second half, however, the score remained stagnant. Freshman midfielder Jackie Klauberg broke the scoring draught with a free-position shot at 20:41.
Brittany Shannon then scored for the Lions, unassisted, to bring the score to 9-3.
For the last six Princeton goals, freshman midfielder Jenna Davis and freshman attack Jaci Gassaway were key — they scored four of the six, even falling into a pattern.
At 17:58, Davis scored unassisted, and two minutes later, Gassaway scored with an assist by freshman attack Sam Ellis.
Previ then notched the next goal for the Tigers, followed by a successful free position shot by Davis and a goal by Gassaway, assisted by Devine.
Ellis closed out the scoring for the night with Behringer on the assist, with five minutes left to play.
On Sunday, Princeton will look to notch its second out-of-league win against Georgetown in Washington.
