Senior utility player Jamie Lettire was a second-Team All-Ivy selection for the softball team a season ago. A first baseman and pitcher, Lettire led the Tigers with eight home runs and a 4.04 ERA last year.
After suffering a disappointing season last year, Princeton looks to return to the form that saw it win the Ivy League title two years ago and compete in the NCAA tournament.
Q: What was your “welcome to college” moment?
A: First plate-push on a rainy day. It’s like fitting an O Lineman into a pair of 00 jeans — Impossible.
Q: Who is your quirkiest teammate?
A: [Freshman] Candy Button. Cute as a button, sweet as candy.
Q: What is the greatest highlight of your sports career?
A: Hitting the walk-off home run against Cornell to win Ivies sophomore year.
Q: What is the best part of being an athlete on campus?
A: Being the first one at Firestone on Sunday mornings at 10 because we’ve already had practice.
Q: The worst part?
A: Knowing that I only have three more months with my amazing coaches and teammates.

Q: Who is your professional athletic role model?
A: Elin Woods. She’s good with a golf club.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when not playing softball?
A: Solo dance parties to anything by Kelly Clarkson.
Q: What’s a funny story about your coach?
Our head coach [Trina Salcido] tells us to keep our butts down so our balls don’t drop.
Q: What’s your favorite class that you’ve taken at Princeton?
A: American Bestsellers. We got to read Gossip Girl. XOXO.
Q: If you were coach for a day, what would you do?
A: Order everyone Princeton Softball Lululemon pants.
Q: Who gets the most guys/girls on the team? Who’s got the most game off the field?
A: We haven’t seen the freshmen play yet, but we know they like to go for extra bases.
Q: What’s the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
A: “That’s How I Beat Shaq” by Aaron Carter.
Q: Do you have any pre-game rituals?
A: Our team always has a song that we all dance to before the start of every doubleheader. Last year’s was Jai Ho. This year’s is still up for grabs.
Q: Are there any particular Princeton players we should be looking out for this year?
A: Freshman pitcher Alex Peyton. She’s not afraid to buzz the tower.
Q: What are the team’s goals and your personal goals for the season?
A: Have fun and win in the process. That’s all you can really ask for.
