Q: What was your first welcome-to-college moment in track?
A: When I was introduced to the Alex Pessala ‘09 - Tim Lanni ‘09 turf war. Both sides made a lot of promises, but in the end, I just felt like a piece of meat.
Q: What would you say has been the greatest highlight of your sports career — at Princeton or before?
A: Successfully losing 50% of my pre-college body weight. Now I can proudly say that I look more like a distance runner than a hammer thrower.
Q: What is the funniest story you can tell about a coach?
A: Head Coach Fred Samara, a member of the World’s Greatest Athlete - Decathlete Club, was one of the American representatives in the decathlon at the Montreal Olympics with Bruce Jenner. Lets just say he isn’t a fan of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. He also once shut down a Quinzo’s sub in Clearwater, Florida on spring break. Sadly, the employees there did not understand that a Turkey, Bacon, and Guacamole comes with Guacamole. We weren’t sure what was going to happen when the employee told Coach Samara that there was no Guacamole on his sandwich. But, the next year when we returned, coach commented that the Quinzo’s was no longer there. Some say it was the recession that closed that Quinzos, but I know what really happened.
Q: Who would you say is your quirkiest teammate? Why?
A: I’ve had a lot...Bud Grote ‘08, Bryan Sharkey ‘09, but this year I have to say it’s a tie between Elliot Welder ‘10 and Ted N. Price III ‘10. They’ve all shared some pretty weird traits, which I’m not sure are appropriate to share in this forum. Let’s just leave it at this: they all share an ice bath after workouts.
Q: Most embarrassing moment with the team?
A: Standing next to Lou Tejada ‘12 or Ian Thomson ‘09 in the shower. It’s just humiliating.
Q: Best part of being an athlete?
A: Having 2 and a half hours a day where I’m free of Adam Harris ‘10. Everyone else thinks he is on our team, but the one place he isn’t is on the track.

Q: Worst part of being an athlete?
A: I would say that the worst aspect is how little time you have to do anything, but that’s not true. It’s definitely having to spend time with George Abyad ‘11... every... single... day.
Q: Who gets the most guys/girls on the team?
A: Andrew Usoro ‘10 and Chad Faulkner ‘10 for sure. Best tag team since Goose and Maverick.
Q: Pre-game ritual?
A: Well the throwers go to Hoagie Haven before a meet, but I usually just admire the food and then cry on the curb outside because I can no longer eat their products. Then, Eric Plummer ‘10, another thrower on the team, likes to do a mean Sean Kingston impression/show for us in the locker room right before we compete. That usually cheers me up.
