EAST RUTHERFORD — In a game that featured stellar play on both sides of the restraining line, the No. 5 men's lacrosse team defeated No. 2 Syracuse 12-8 in the Inside Lacrosse Big City Classic at Giants Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Princeton scored first on a shot from sophomore attack Jack McBride and never relinquished the lead, finishing the first half ahead 5-3.

Syracuse scored the first two goals of the second half, tying the game at five, but junior faceoff man Paul Barnes won the ensuing faceoff, and McBride scored his third goal of the game to push the Tigers to a 6-5 lead.

Syracuse kept the game close through the end of the third quarter, trailing 9-7 entering the final 15 minutes, but the Princeton defense played tough in the fourth, holding the Orange scoreless until the final minutes of the quarter.

Goals from senior midfielders Rich Sgalardi and Mark Kovler iced the game for the Tigers, who came away with a 12-8 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Tyler Fiorito had a big game as well, anchoring the Tiger defense and keeping Syracuse scoreless for two long stretches of more than 12 minutes each.
