Club sports
The men’s club soccer team opened its spring season last weekend with a commanding 5-1 victory over Villanova at West Windsor Fields. Led by junior co-captain TJ Ramirez and senior Eric Markfield, the Tigers tallied four first-half goals and cruised to victory.
“We scored twice before our defense had a chance to touch the ball,” junior co-captain Matt Lichtenstein said. “We have a lot of young players that are stepping up this season, and we are looking forward to building momentum towards our fall season.” The team plays at home against Bloomsburg University at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
The women’s club soccer team dropped two games last Saturday at West Windsor Fields. Playing a man down for the first game, the Tigers fell 3-0 to Penn and 2-0 to Bloomsburg.
The club sailing team hosted a regatta at the Raritan Yacht Club last weekend. The regatta was a qualifier for the America’s Trophy, the Mesa Region’s annual championship, and the Tigers battled harsh weather and nine other teams to a fourth-place finish.
“On the first day, there were no races because conditions were too extreme,” sophomore John Wetenhall said. “Unfortunately, we did not qualify this year.”
The men’s club lacrosse team is hosting the Princeton Invitational at West Windsor this weekend. The Tigers play Penn at 9 a.m., with the championship game starting at 2 p.m.
The women’s rugby team fell 46-0 to Yale at home last weekend. On a very windy day, the team struggled to field a full team and fell to one of its most competitive Ivy League rivals.
“We were missing a lot of our more experienced players, and because of injuries, we were forced to play the entire second half a man down,” senior co-captain Elaine Bigelow said.
The team hosts a round robin against Salisbury College and Rutgers on Saturday. Action starts at 12 p.m. in West Windsor.
The club field hockey team lost to Rowan 2-1 on Saturday on a goal late in the game. The Tigers’ lone score came from freshman Courtney Gallagher. The team is off this weekend and resumes play on April 18.
The ping-pong team returned from the national tournament in Rochester, Minn., with a fourth-place finish. Look for more coverage of the team’s success in the Sports section next week.

Intramural sports
Spring leagues for innertube water polo, co-rec soccer, softball and handball — a new intramural sport this year — are currently underway. Playoffs will begin at the end of the month.
Registration for the intramural tennis tournament starts today, and competition in both singles and doubles tennis begins on Monday.
Colonial Club, with 1,058 points on the season, is the leader among eating clubs in the overall points standings. Forbes College leads the competition among the residential colleges with a 199-point lead over Mathey College. But the Graduate College, with 1,775 points, leads the full field in the overall standings.
