Track & Field: Plummer, Faulkner qualify for regionals

 The men’s team achieved success in a variety of events. Junior Eric Plummer qualified for the NCAA Regional Meet in the shot put with a throw of 17.04 meters. Plummer’s throw led a trio of Tigers who finished second through fourth in the event. Following Plummer, senior Tim Lanni finished in third place with a throw of 15.45 meters and freshman Patrick Park finished fourth with a throw of 15.25 meters.

 In the pole vault, junior Chad Faulkner’s 5.05-meter effort earned him a spot in the NCAA Regional Meet as well as a first-place finish in the event. With Plummer’s and Faulkner’s performances, the Tigers have now qualified seven athletes for the regional meet.

 The women’s relay teams stole the show in Orlando, earning four first-place finishes. The 1,600m sprint medley team finished first with a blistering time of 4 minutes, 11.53 seconds, more than nine seconds faster than the second-place team. In the 4x1,500m relay, seniors Alexe Smith and Jolee VanLeuven teamed up with sophomores Libby Bliss and Brooke Russell to finish in 18:38.48, 83 seconds ahead of second-place Colgate.

 Additionally, the 4x100m shuttle hurdle relay team – made up of freshman Melissa Tassone and sophomores Lauren Barber, Bianca Mathabane and KC Wade – took first place in a time of 1:01. Not to be outdone, the 4x200m sprint team, with seniors Karen Okigbo and Agatha Offorjebe and freshmen Sarah Houtmann and Eileen Moran, finished first in 1:41.38.
