The win brought Princeton (7-7 overall, 2-4 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association Tait Division) back to .500 and marked the end of the Tigers’ disappointing streak homestand, as Princeton dropped three of five matches at Dillon Gymnasium. Even the matchup against the Crimson (8-6 overall, 3-1 EIVA Hay) started off badly for the Tigers, with Harvard jumping out to a 6-3 lead in the first set. Princeton — hungry for revenge on its home court — quickly struck back and earned a lead that it would hold on to until the end of the set, as it scored five of the last six points in its 30-22 first-game victory.
Building off the momentum it gained from the first game, the Tiger offense blew apart the Crimson defense in the second game in building a 7-2 lead. Though Harvard was able to cut the Tigers’ huge lead down to one point at 26-25 with to a 9-0 run, back-to-back kills from Princeton ultimately gave it a 33-31 second-game victory.
During the final game, the Tigers once again hit the court running, going up 3-1 in the first few minutes of play. Though the Crimson managed to knot the game at three, Princeton quickly countered and held on to a firm lead through the rest of the game, ending the game decisively at 30-20 and clinching the match.
Leading the Tigers in their sweep of Harvard were senior outside hitter Phil Rosenberg, who posted 14 kills, and senior middle blocker Mike Vincent, who recorded 12 kills of his own.
