Q: What is your favorite intramural sport?
A: Floor hockey. Hands down. The best intramural sports are the ones designed for people who can’t play the real version. This team was founded by people who love hockey but can’t skate worth anything. So floor hockey is really perfect. Broomball is great, too.
Q: What is your least favorite?
A: Basketball. I’m five feet, nine inches and have a 2” vertical, so I’m not in a good spot to start. It also doesn’t help that I’m a Shaq-quality free-throw shooter.
Q: What was your welcome-to-college moment?
A: Finally hitting a squirrel with a piece of fruit. I spent all of my first semester trying to get one and finally got one with an apple halfway through the year. A month later, the Black Squirrels were born.
Q: What was the greatest highlight in your time playing in intramurals?
A: Finally breaking through and winning our first championship last spring. After our first year, the Black Squirrels were starting to look a lot like the Buffalo Bills. We had all the pieces, but we couldn’t come through in the big game. It was a tight game, but [sophomore] Zofia [Rokicki]and Sarah [Yuki ’08] came through to put together the game-winner in the closing minute.
Q: What is the quirkiest story you have about a teammate?
A: [Junior Marty] Topol. The dude lives in a world that runs by its own set of rules. It’s part 1950s TV show and part 1700s farmboy. But he rules in that world.
Q: What is your most embarrassing moment?
A: Most people would call my lack of defense embarrassing. I try to play as much of our games as possible from the offensive zone. Everyone has their own style. You may say “cherry picking,” but I say “hat tricks”.

Q: What is the best part about being an intramural athlete on campus?
A: Getting to play against Colonial all the time.
Q: What is the worst part about being an intramural athlete on campus?
A: The fame. It can be difficult to focus on schoolwork while dealing with all the publicity from the team.
Q: What is the biggest difference between being an intramural athlete and a varsity athlete?
A: The uniforms. Our Nike sponsorship hasn’t come through yet, so we’re making do with iron-on T-shirts from Wal-Mart. And we haven’t been able to afford numbers yet.
Q: Who gets the most guys/girls on the team? Who has the most game off the field?
A: I’ve got to give this one to [junior] Eben [Novy-Williams]. When he gets a girl back to the room, all he has to do is turn on the TV and pop in “Swimfan,” and it’s a done deal. (Novy-Williams is also an associate editor for sports for The Daily Princetonian.)
