On Friday, playing mostly against players from William & Mary and North Carolina State University, Princeton players went 8-4. Saiontz won both her matches, a 7-6, 6-2 victory over NC State’s Niels Barringer and a 7-6, 6-3 triumph over William & Mary’s Katie Kargl. The Tigers also received wins from seniors Kelly Stewart and Kristen Scott, sophomores Taylor Marable, Blakely Ashley and Sarah Hoffman, and freshman Hilary Bartlett.
On Saturday, Saiontz and her fellow Tigers continued their winning ways. In doubles the Tigers recorded victories over Furman University from the teams of Marable and Bartlett and Parks and Saiontz, and the Marable-Bartlett pair notched another victory over a UNC team. In singles, the Tigers received victories from Marable, Hoffman and Stewart.
But once again it was Saiontz who stole the show. After winning twice on Friday, the junior from Miami, Fla., won twice more Saturday, bringing her weekend singles record to 4-0. Saiontz dispatched of UNC’s Shinann Featherston 3-6, 6-2 (11-9) and then handled the College of Charleston’s Holly Dowse, 6-4, 6-3.
Saiontz’ undefeated weekend earned her second place overall in the tournament and served as a fitting end to a successful fall season. The Tigers do not resume competitive play until January, when they open their spring season in Jadwin Gymnasium.
