The women’s team defeated Penn 175-117 and Cornell 186-106 on Friday evening, establishing a strong lead in the first half of the meet that allowed the Tigers to swim off events for the remainder of the night.
Sophomore Megan Waters led the way for the Orange and Black, winning all three of her individual events and swimming the butterfly for the first-place 200-yard medley relay team. Waters won the 50-yard freestyle by more than a second, an unheard-of feat in the lightning-fast event also known as the splash and dash. She then clinched the top spots in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly, clocking in at 52.29 seconds and 57.88 seconds respectively, nearly a second faster than her competitors in both events.
The Tigers grabbed the fastest time in 12 of 14 events and placed second in the two events that they didn’t win.
Princeton took the top two spots in the first three events and would do so for two more events at the meet. While Waters had the most individual wins, junior Courtney Kilkuts and freshman Jillian Altenburger were close behind with two each. Kilkuts, a defending Ivy League champion, swam a 1:04.78 to win the 100-yard breaststroke and followed with an impressive 2:20.15 in the 200-yard breaststroke, more than three seconds faster than the rest of the field. Altenburger won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.84 and then swam a personal-best 2:08.98 in the 200-yard IM.
Sophomores Ming Ong and Nicole McAndrew led in the distance events, posting top times in the 500- and 1,000-yard freestyle. McAndrew paced the 1,000-yard event, taking the lead in the first 50 yards and widening it through the race, winning in 10:23.12, seven seconds faster than freshman teammate Lauren Shanley, who placed second. Similarly, Ong controlled the 500 from the beginning, opening a two-second lead at 200 yards and a four-second lead at 350 yards, finishing in 5:02.75.
The Princeton divers dominated, taking the top three scores in the one-meter and three-meter events. The senior trio of Katie Giarra, Peggy Kearns and Shelby Rudd never looked back in the three-meter event as they finished first, second and third respectively. Giarra also posted the top score in the one-meter event.
Winning three individual events, senior Doug Lennox led the No. 22 Tigers to a 194-106 win over Cornell and a 189-111 win over Penn on Saturday afternoon, continuing Princeton’s undefeated streak in DeNunzio Pool. Princeton took first in nine of 16 events and had a top-three finisher in all 16.
Lennox started his win streak with the 100-yard backstroke, posting a time of 49.26 seconds, half a second faster than Penn’s Phil Baity. Baity had a faster split in the final 50 yards but could not make up Lennox’ early advantage. Lennox controlled the 100-yard freestyle and butterfly, finishing in 44.14 and 47.78 seconds respectively.
Senior Robert Greist snatched the first individual win for the Tigers in the 1,000-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 9:14.74. Greist held on to a 0.2 second lead at the 800-yard mark only to turn on a new gear and put almost two seconds between him and second place in the last 200 yards.
Senior Dan Eckel posted the fastest time in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:48.24, three seconds faster than Cornell’s Dean Holcomb.
The most dominating win for the Tigers came in the 100-yard butterfly, as Princeton claimed the top four spots in the event. Lennox led the way, followed by freshman Charley Wang, Eckel and freshman Mike Monovoukas.
Junior Daniel Dickerson led the divers with a top-notch performance Saturday afternoon, clinching first in the three-meter event and second in the one-meter event.

The Tigers have a week to rest before they face their fastest meet of the regular season in the annual Big Al Open, which kicks off Dec. 5 at DeNunzio Pool.
