Intramural Sports: Colonial Club represents Princeton at N.J. tourney

Colonial defeated the Wilson School in the Co Rec championship round but never had an opportunity to face truly tough competition.

Princeton’s Co Rec champion, Colonial Club, became the first team to represent the Tigers at the eighth-annual New Jersey State Flag Football Tournament last Saturday. Princeton faced stiff competition from Monmouth University and The College of New Jersey, dropping both matches, 28-0 and 32-6.

“Most of the teams were very prepared. They had plays and practices beforehand,” senior Stephanie Kriston said. “We had a lot of spirit, and we definitely had the most fun of anyone out there.”

Princeton was accompanied by St. Peter’s College, Rutgers, Rider University, Rowan University and William Patterson University. St. Peter’s went on to win the Co Rec tournament. With a couple of big games under their belts, the Tigers will have the experience needed for a better showing next year.

“It was a beautiful day to play football, but we suffered from not adequately understanding the rules before we went,” Kriston said. “There was a different level of intensity, and we definitely have to work on that for the next time.”

Back on campus, the Anarchists were crowned as the men’s flag football champion this past week, defeating the Anytown Allstars in an exciting match. The Anarchists were captained by sophomore David Palms, while senior Brendan Reilly led the Anytown Allstars.

Im in an Eating Club defeated Tower Club to win the Co Rec A ultimate frisbee championship, with the Co Rec B championship to be held Thursday at 4:30 p.m. on Poe Field, weather permitting.

Men’s outdoor soccer playoffs are being held this week and will end tonight with the final matches at 8:30 p.m.

Both three-on-three basketball and indoor soccer begin this week. Basketball started on Tuesday, and season-opening indoor soccer games are today.

Campus Recreation will also be hosting a 5K run/walk to benefit the Crisis Ministry of Princeton. There will be no entry fee, but entrants are expected to present a non-perishable food item or donation. The run will be held on Nov. 21, with participants leaving from Dillon Gym at 3 p.m. The first 100 people to register will receive a free T-shirt, and those interested can register online at the Campus Recreation website. Participants can register as individuals or as teams, and the team that collects the most items for donation will receive a plaque.
