On tap with ... senior attack Katie Kinzer

A: Field hockey pre-season — 7 a.m. my first day on campus, having to run four 1,000-yard sprints for our run test.

Q: What has been the greatest highlight in your sports career?

A: Advancing to the second round of NCAAs my sophomore year. We beat the third-ranked team in the nation in double overtime (golden goal) at home. Also, beating Penn State last Wednesday — it was the first time we have beat them since I have been here, and it was on their home turf.

Q: What’s the funniest story you have about a coach?

A: Every year for Halloween, we choose costumes for our coaches, and we all dress up and go to Bonzai for dinner. My freshman year our coaches dressed up in “Dodgeball” theme. My head coach dressed up as the intense unibrow girl, and I don’t think that I have ever laughed so hard. She looked exactly like her, it was kind of scary actually.

Q: Who is your quirkiest teammate? Why?

A: [Junior midfielder] Kat Cape — she’s from Canada.

Q: What has been your most embarrassing moment with the team?

A: One game my freshman year, my coach told me to “get my hands warmed up” before I went into a big game. It was really cold outside and my nervousness must have blocked my logical thinking because I put my hands in my coat pocket, literally warming them up instead of playing around with my stick. The upperclassmen didn’t let me forget it the entire year.

Q: What’s the best part about being an athlete on campus?

A: Getting to be a part of a team — we all have a great time together both on and off the field. Practice [and] games are a much-needed break from school also.

A: Not having enough hours in the day.

Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when not practicing?

A: I enjoy rocking out to Guitar Hero (I am forever trying to reach the super expert status that only [senior attack] Kristin Schwab possesses) and the occasional Sudoku game. I also recently got into watching “Lost.”

Q: If not field hockey, what other sport would you play?

A: Soccer. Although after watching the Olympics, I would consider at this point taking up either beach volleyball or handball.

Q: If you were a coach for a day, you would …?

A: Definitely replace practice with a team trip to Coldstone and the movie theater, preferably an IMAX viewing of “The Dark Knight” (I don’t think that is still in theaters, but I would find a place).

Q: What has been your favorite class at Pinceton?

A: EEB 312: Marine Biology (it was in Bermuda).

Q: Who gets the most guys on the team? Who has the most game off the field?

A: This question could get me into some serious trouble ... although I must say that I am impressed by the tactics of a certain junior team member, who got a boyfriend through the use of mild physical abuse one night.

Q: Do you have a pre-game ritual?

A: Team dancing in the locker room — this season, team favorites include “Just Dance” by Lady Gaga, “DotA” and “Disturbia.” We also always listen to the “Last of the Mohicans” song before we head to the field — it’s tradition.

Q: Most embarrassing song on your iPod?

A: Either the “Mortal Combat” techno remix or the “Inspector Gadget” techno remix ... although I can’t really say I’m embarrassed by them (both are featured on our pre-game warm-up mix).
