This season, the Office of Campus Recreation is offering outdoor soccer, co-recreational kickball, co-recreational Ultimate Frisbee, co-recreational volleyball and the ever-popular flag football.
Flag Football sees first All-Star Game before playoffs begin
Flag football has finished its regular season of play, and participating teams are preparing for the playoffs. As a change of pace from normal intramural matches, student-athletes participated in the inaugural Intramural All-Star Game on Monday, Oct. 13.
Divided into Black and Orange squads, the Black team emerged victorious, 5-2. Playing for the winning team were David Palms ’11, Karen Winterhof ’09, Eric Dodds ’10, Justin Fu ’10, Duncan Roberts ’09, Brad Gemberling ’09 and Steven Slovenski ’09. Participating on Team Orange were Rob Barnett ’09, Mike Alvarez ’10, Dan Ames GS, John Baker ’09, Nathan Brown ’12, Michael North GS and Marquis Brown GS.
Roberts noted that Winterhof played especially well in the matchup.
“Our only girl, Karen, came up huge with three completed passes,” Roberts said. “She’s spectacular.”
The flag football playoffs began Wednesday night at Class of 1952 Stadium. The Co-Recreational Championship will kick off Thursday night, while the men’s championship will occur on Tuesday, Oct. 21. All game are at 7:45 p.m.
Forbes takes on Terrace in kickball battle of the geographically misplaced
While the flag football teams gear up for their playoff seasons, the co-recreational volleyball teams are also getting ready for their own playoff runs, which will start Sunday, Oct. 19, when Tiger Inn takes on Mathey College at 7 p.m., and Charter goes head-to-head with Whitman College at 8 p.m.
Outdoor soccer and co-recreational Ultimate Frisbee are also wrapping up their seasons. Similar to the flag football league, outdoor soccer will play an All-Star Game, which kicks off at 5 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Poe Field.
On Sunday evenings, students have been running the bases around Dillon Gym in the co-recreational kickball league. On Sunday, Oct. 19, a trio of games will take place, with a Prospect Avenue battle between Charter and Colonial clubs occurring at 6 p.m., the Forbes Pontificators against Terrace at 8 p.m. and the Wilson School facing off against Plug Flow at 9 p.m.
Princeton institutes first intramural Roshambo competition
In addition to the more traditional sports offered by the Office of Campus Recreation, Dillon Gym will play host to the first-ever Rock, Paper, Scissors tournament on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. Successful participants could win 8GB iPod Nanos.
While the fall seasons are coming to a close, winter sport enthusiasts are gearing up to challenge for titles in broomball, indoor soccer and three-on-three basketball. Registration for these three sports closes Friday, Oct. 17.
