Though not a preseason favorite in the league, Colonial Club — led by team senior captain Adam Hugh — proved itself on the field in Co-Recreational Flag Football. After fighting through its schedule and marching through the playoffs, Colonial was crowned champion of the Co-Recreational Flag Football league on Thursday, Oct. 16.
Though the Co-Recreational Flag Football league has already wrapped up its season, the men’s Flag Football Championship bracket still has one game left. This league will finish its season Monday, Nov. 3, when the Anarchists take on the Anytown Allstars. The Anarchists are helmed by sophomore pitcher David Palms of the baseball team, while senior Brendan Reilly of the lacrosse and sprint football teams is heading up the Allstars. The game will be played at 7:45 p.m. on the turf field at Class of 1952 Stadium.
Several teams are also still battling it out in the soccer and frisbee leagues. Playoff games kick off on Monday, Nov. 3, with championship games on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Four teams, Charter, Hibben Magic, TRELA and GCX, are still standing in the intramural volleyball league. Two of these teams will be lucky enough to make it to the championship game, which will take place Monday, Nov. 3, at 8:30 p.m.
As the rest of the fall sports season comes to a close, students are looking forward to the start of the winter intramural season, which includes popular sports such as indoor soccer, three-on-three basketball and broomball. Registration for these sports has already closed, and all games will kick off after Fall Break.
Participation in each of these sports has increased a great deal from last year. There will be 36 three-on-three basketball teams shooting hoops this year, along with 28 indoor soccer teams and six broomball squads.
On Wednesday evening, roughly 20 students took a much-needed break from midterms to participate in the first-annual Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament held at Dillon Gym. Sophomore Zacch Olorunnipa survived the competition and emerged victorious over the rest of the playing field, taking home a coveted 8GB iPod Nano for his efforts. Senior Sarah Harrison and graduate student Simon Oswald also won sweaters in the competition.
