Q: What was your welcome-to-college moment?
A: It was on my recruiting trip. I made out with a hefty girl that night, and it has become a running joke on the team that has lasted my whole career.
Q: What’s your funniest story about a coach?
A: At Southern Championships two years ago, we were mid-game, and [head coach] Luis [Nicolao] called a timeout. He got worked up about us not executing on a play we were running. He sat down without looking and fell backwards into a huge bin. He was squirming for a while and waddled out after a couple minutes. It really lightened the mood.
Q: Who is your quirkiest teammate? Why?
A: Tough question, but I’d have to go with [freshman utility] Mike Helou. He’s not actually that quirky, but his nickname is Snuffaluffagus.
Q: What’s the best part about being an athlete on campus?
A: Nourishing the mind as well as the body. I like to break a mental sweat, too.
Q: What’s the worst/hardest part about being an athlete on campus?
A: Keeping up with school in the midst of daily practices and traveling every weekend in the season.
Q: What’s your favorite thing to do when not practicing?
A: Brushing up on my Chinese calligraphy. It’s pretty addicting. I’ll steep a pot of tea to get me in the mood, and I come out of a trance after some-odd hours wondering where my day has gone.

Q: If not water polo, what other sport would you play?
A: It’s always been my dream to be on the equestrian team.
Q: What has been your favorite class at Princeton?
A: My favorite class at Princeton has been the Chinese Novel. Andrew Plaks [’67] taught the class; he is the quintessential Princeton professor — French twirled mustache, scarf and a tweed coat. Besides, he can speak fluent Chinese.
Q: Who gets the most girls on the team? Who has the most game off the field?
A: No doubt … [junior driver] Matt Hudnall. He leverages an unhealthy obsession with “Star Wars” to get ladies. His go-to line is, “Hey Baby, Sith Happens.” If you hear that line, how can you resist? It’s pretty much unfair for the rest of the male population.
Q: Most embarrassing song on your iPod?
A: The “Snakes on a Plane” theme song. Whether it’s embarrassing, or awesome, is really in the eyes of the beholder.
