As it attempts to win its third-consecutive Ivy League Heptagonal championship, the men's cross country team will also be breaking in a new coach.
Athletics Director Gary Walters '67 introduced Steve Dolan as the program's head coach on Aug. 28.
Dolan, no stranger to Princeton's strong core of runners, has been an assistant coach on the track and field team for the past five years and takes over for former head coach Fred Samara. Though he has relinquished his duties with the cross country team, Samara remains the head coach of the men's track and field team.
Dolan was an NCAA Division III National Champion in the decathlon during his undergraduate career at the University of St. Thomas and boasted a distinguished coaching record prior to arriving at Princeton. As head coach of The College of New Jersey's men's and women's track and field programs, Dolan was honored 12 times as an NCAA Division III Regional Coach of the Year.
The head coaching change comes after one of the Tigers' best seasons. After taking its second-straight Ivy League Heptagonal title, Princeton sent three runners to the NCAA Championships, including senior All-American Michael Maag, junior Ben Sitler and Roper Trophy winner David Nightingale '08.
