Will Venable '05 was called up by the San Diego Padres from Triple-A Portland on Saturday. He debuted against the Colorado Rockies this weekend, and in the three game series recorded four hits and two RBI in 12 at-bats. The Padres took two out of three from the Rockies at home.
Venable joins fellow alum Chris Young '02, who has been troubled by injury for much of this season but returned from the disabled list to pitch Monday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Venable was a two-sport star at Princeton and was named All-Ivy for both basketball and baseball. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 2005 draft by San Diego, a year after being drafted in the 15th round by Baltimore and opting to return to school.
