Tigers try for Olympic glory

Six Princeton rowers will represent their countries in the summer Olympic Games in Beijing this August. Carolina Lind '06, who served as the stroke on the dominating 2006 women's open varsity eight, earned a seat in the U.S. Women's 8+. Lind will compete against former teammate Andreanne Morin '06, who will participate in her second Olympic games for the Canadian 8+. Rounding out the Tigers on the women's rowing team is Lia Pernell '03, who earned a spot in the quad.

Three Princeton men will also be competing in Beijing. In addition to Sam Loch '06, whose seat in the Australian 8+ was announced in February, Steve Coppola '06 will be on the U.S. 8+ squad. Two-time Olympian Paul Teti '01 will also represent the red, white and blue, racing in the 4-. Loch and Coppola led the legendary varsity eight that took the Temple Cup at the Royal Henley Regatta and first at the 2005 Head of the Charles, the first collegiate crew to accomplish that feat in 22 years.

Swimming

Rising junior swimmer Alicia Aemisegger took seventh place at the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 400 IM with a time of four minutes, 43.32 seconds, more than 12 seconds off the world record time of 4:31.12 set by Katie Hoff and two seconds slower than Aemisegger's fastest swim in the event this season. Aemisegger will compete in several more events this week, though the 400 IM was her best chance at making the Olympic team. Aemisegger is joined in Omaha, Neb., by current and future teammates rising sophomore Meredith Monroe, rising junior Courtney Kilkuts and rising freshmen Jillian Altenburger and Caitlin Baran.

Representing the men's swimming program at the Olympic Trials are rising senior Mike Carter, rising sophomore Colin Hanna and rising senior Will Schaffer.
