Two members of the men's lacrosse team, junior defender Dan Cocoziello and junior goalkeeper Alex Hewit, were honored earlier this week by Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook as preseason First-Team All-America selections. Senior attack Pete Trombino and senior defender Zachary Jungers were named as members of the second team.
Last year, Hewit made himself known as one of the top goalkeepers in the country. His stingy .646 save percentage was the second best in the country. He fell short of being named to the All-Ivy League first team, as Cornell's Matt McMonagle was named instead.
Cocoziello, who has never missed a game that he has been eligible to play in, has been racking up accolades over the course of his Princeton career. Last season, he was named to the All-Ivy League first team and to the All-America second team.
Trombino has been a consistent scoring threat throughout his career as a Tiger. He stands alone in the record books as the only Princetonian ever to score 20 or more goals and 10 or more assists in his first three seasons. Jungers also contributed to the solid defensive play last year and was rewarded with a Third-Team All-America selection for his efforts.
In addition to these first-and-second-team selections, senior midfielder Scott Sowanick was selected to represent Princeton on the third team, and sophomore midfielders Mark Kovler and Josh Lesko received honorable mentions. All of these players represent a Tiger squad that was recently ranked fourth nationally in a preseason poll.
