Franklin & Marshall outclassed

Men's squash head coach Bob Callahan decided to rest two of his leaders, seniors Preston Comey and tri-captain Michael Gilman, for the men's squash team's match on Wednesday evening, but the rest of the Tigers picked up the slack. No. 2 Princeton (2-0 overall, 1-0 Ivy League) continued its winning ways, defeating an overmatched Franklin & Marshall squad (1-5 overall) by a score of 8-1.

At the top of the Tiger lineup, sophomore standouts Mauricio Sanchez, Kimlee Wong and Hesham El Halaby cruised past their opponents, posting 3-0 victories. In the four and five positions, freshmen Santiago Imberton and David Canner followed suit, improving their collective collegiate record to 4-0.

The most exciting match of the evening came in the No. 9 spot, where junior John Edwards battled Ketan Patel. Edwards, making his first varsity start for the Orange and Black, quickly dropped the first two games. But the junior climbed his way back into the match, fighting off a handful of match points and claiming spirited wins in the following two games. His comeback fell just short, however, as he dropped the hotly-contested fifth game, 9-7. With the win, Patel evened his season record at 2-2.

"We were very proud of John's efforts tonight," junior tri-captain Tom McKay said. "He handled himself very well on the court and showed the kind of determination that will bring him success in future matches."

Also making his first collegiate start was freshman James Thorman, a graduate of the Brunswick School, a perennial powerhouse in the prep school squash ranks. Thorman quelled early nerves with a decisive win in the first game and rolled to a 3-0 victory.

With Comey and Gilman returning to the lineup this weekend, the Tigers look strong as they prepare to take on Brown and Williams this weekend.

"Tonight's match was a great tuneup for the weekend," McKay said. "Our starters are well-rested, confident, and in top form. We are looking forward to building our momentum and moving closer to our ultimate goal."
